Say Hello!!!!!!!

Gals,

We have a new addition to the family who wants to say hi! :)

Gilly is our very first pet and she is wee miniature "Yorky". Ive been skyping home to show my folks our newest little one and dad is calling her my new brooch. It seems everytime I go on the laptop she clambers up onto my shoulder and all the other person can see on the skype video call is a wee black ball of fluff with two little beady eyes looking back at them sitting on my shoulder!

Lets hope she likes ruffles and stuff coz soon as time permits Im gonna be decking her out in some bonzie specials. ;)

Teal Silk Bridal Bolero/Wrap!

Who would have thought 20 years ago we would be actually opting for anything other than white to get wed in! I'd imagine champagne was pushing the boundaries back then and considered quite fashion forward and edgy!

Well forward a few decades and its any one's preference. Brides nowadays are not afraid to experiment with colors and inject a shot of teal or splash of red and green into their overall bridal look. One of the best ways to remain within the safe neutral bridal colors is to introduce an accent color with your bridal accessories, whether its a head piece, a bolero or some funky corsages.
We have been sourcing some of the richest shades around to offer our bridal boleros and silk wraps in an array of colors and these will be added to the shop soon. :) We also offer most of the silk bridal boleros that you see in our store in a range of colors if you do happen to find a style you like and would be daring enough to request a hot color then get in touch, hit us up on facebook

RTE Website Feature!

Gals,
Some exciting news to share on the publicity front....

One of our pieces from a previous photoshoot with Zeba Hair Group on Dublin and Dublin Based Stylist, Roxanne Parker has been featured up on the National TV station, RTE Website! Gers hubbie came upon this little nugget by accident online scouring the fashion pages, ( as you do!) and he instantly recognised the picture.

The feature is an interview with the fabulously talented Hair Stylist, Stephen Kelly who we had the pleasure to work with on the photoshoot. Check out their website here to oogle after their artistic creations.

It brought a smile to our day today. :)

Fabulous Bridal Blog find!

Gals,

We were so excited to receive a wee email today from the talented folk over at the "Inventing Weddings" Blog. Bonnie wrote to us to let us know that one of our boleros had been recently featured in a post over there on Bridal Shabby Chic. I immediately went over for a visit and I am so glad to have found this particular blog. This is an absolutely fantastic resource for the style savvy bride who is hoping to inject a little bit of something special into their big day.
Bonnie takes a color scheme and theme and creates truly beautiful mood boards, like the one above, bringing together an array of handmade pieces, mostly from http://www.etsy.com/ and provides color palettes, fonts the whole shebang. Its a practical wedding planner at your fingertips, and one with bags of style, a veritable feast of ideas and online resources. I got lost scrolling through the various different wedding themes and I can only imagine what a great resource and inspiration this site would be for brides planning their own big day.

If your wondering where to begin in terms of your wedding theme why not pay the Bonnie a visit at http://www.inventingweddings.blogspot.com/. Your creative juices will be overflowing afterwards!

Sunny Photoshoots!

Hey Gals,

Ger and I held a photoshoot yesterday to add some new stock to the shop. It was a sunny day here in Ireland but very windy, which led to some very intersting windswept shots!

Irish Model, Lucy Fitzgerald worked beautifully for the shoot and leant a really ethereal feel to the overall look with her captivating blue eyes which just sparkled out of each shot. Lucy also happens to be my cousin and a trained dancer too which was a real treat to work with in terms of posing and poise. We had a fun day which involved very glamorous slurry puddles and spritely pheasants frightening the life out of the 3 of us on the barn shots!

Check out the results of the shoot with some of the newest bridal boleros being added to the shop. ;)

Client Corner ~ Margaret

Travelling in Style!!

Hi Gals,

Wanted to share a couple of pics of one of our recent clients here in our very own town. Margaret and Iain created the most fantastic wedding day, complete with castles, helicopter, kilts and not forgetting one of our very own bridal pieces, the Elizabethan Long Bridal Coat. You might remember it from a while back, well Margaret opted for a shorter version of the coat to accompany her stunning short Audrey Hepburn style dress underneath.
Margaret looked absolutely stunning on the day and totally rocked those shoes too! It was a really fun wedding to be a part of, a dream customer who really enjoys quirky design and creativity.

Ger and I would like to wish both Iain and Margaret a very happy journey together, it was a pleasure being a part of your special day.

Spring Fling Orange Ruffles

Gals,

On a very rainy wintery day here in Ireland , we felt it would be nice to add a burst of color into our wraps collection with a very vivid "Carnivale Burst" ruffled wrap in a double layer of sheer fabric in vivid oranges and magentas. A selection of handmade corsages in lime green pop on the left side of the piece whilst a decadent sequined butterfly adorn the florals for a touch of spring.
Available as always from our etsy store, http://www.bonzie.etsy.com/

Unplanned Sabaticals!

Hi Gals,
It feels like its been an age since we have been round in blogland to update you all and add new postings. A lot has been happening since our feature and its been quite a whirlwind over the last few weeks. I think the run up to the feature and also the intense workload of custom orders we had remaining on our neverending lists took its toll on both of us and we were well and truelly frazzled for the last wee while. I don't think I have ever answered so many emails and queries in my life and I have had an aversion to technology for the last couple of weeks, hence the tumbleweed running through our blog of late.

But alas, recuperation is complete, we have both enjoyed a couple of days out of town, been getting some much needed vitamin D of the sunny variety and have managed to be reintroduced to the bottom of our laundry baskets for the first time in months ( scratch that, lets say years !
We also went to a super meeting today with a local community resource group who are keen to work with our wee growing business and we feel invigorated bout new plans and upcoming projects.

I guess we took a wee bit of time to "sharpen the tools" as Gers hubbie often puts it! A rest sometimes pays off dividends in reviving the soul!

That being said I need to update you guys on the 3 winners of our "Thanking You" competition that we mentioned a couple of weeks ago.

Congrats to

~~~ Pampering Beki ~~~ ( from blog comments )
~~~ Carri ~~~~ ( from blog comments )
~~~ Shay Crammer ~~~ ( from etsy convos )
3 bonzie blooms are on their merry way to you guys this week. :)
Reality Bites!
New Edition to the Shop, Napoleona Red Velvet Coat
Gals,
First and foremost a humongous THANK YOU! to all of our friends and supporters who chimed in with well wishes this week during our etsy "Featured Seller" gig. We were absolutely blown away by the response and felt so thankful to all of our pals on etsy who took time out of their day to share their positivity and warmness with us, we are eternally grateful. :)
In the midst of what can only be described as a tornado going through the studio with over 300emails and a big spike in orders we had a moment of reprieve in the guise of a wee little boy who always brings a smile into our day no matter what we are doing. Ger and I had lots of stock prepared for the feature in advance and we hadn't managed to fit in a photo shoot prior to it so we had to do a quickie photo session out Gers back garden in the middle of the week. Just as Ger was getting into it ( baring in mind Ger is a mom of 3 and has only been rail roaded into modelling by me out of pure necessity on the days that one of our in house models, Niamh, Jez or Judith are at work etc.) , a pose here and a pose there and I was admiring Gers improvisation when just out of the corner of our eyes Gers littlest , who was just home from school, potters over in his Thomas the Tank Engine slipper to where we were shooting and innocently says to Ger, " mam, is me egg ready yet! "
This was enough for the both of us, we were rolling round the garden in hysterics, I don't know if it was the stress of the week, or the fact that we were really getting into the shoot when he brought us right back down to earth. Gers says through the tears rolling down her face, " Ya wouldn't want to be thinking your Kate Moss or anything would ya! " .
Well, its a very glamorous life indeed! lol
Gals,
Some time ago we mentioned that we had a very cool surprise coming up and we couldn't quite talk bout it until it launched online so as not to ruin the surprise for everyone.............. well today that little secret was revealed and we are just so excited to share some really brilliant news with you all.
The lovely folk over at http://www.etsy.com/ (where our wee online boutique resides) have elected us to be the featured sellers on the front page of etsy for our very own time in the spotlight. We were so chuffed when we heard about the feature and its been so tough keeping it a surprise, especially when its such exciting news. We have had a crazy couple of weeks prepping for the feature and today was the first day of its presence online.
We would love to say a big thanks to all of our online pals who jumped in with messages of support and warm wishes, we felt very special receiving all of your good vibes. :)
We are still here!
Hi Gals,
We have been missing in action for a wee while now and the blog has tumbleweed rolling across the screen. Its been a really busy time recently and some very exciting projects took centre stage for the last couple of weeks. Heres what we have been up to of late,
* One of our pieces will be part of an Irish Photo Shoot for an up and coming new Irish Band and will be featured on their album cover ( will be sure to share this later on when the pics come out officially )
* We have been finishing up the last of the neverending custom list that we needed to complete having closed up the custom orders side of things in March, some of these last items included wedding dresses, communion dresses and multiple bridal packages so it was all hands on deck! Hope to share some of the client pics from these commissions later on in the year. :)
* The biggest time consumer of late is the preperation for a really exciting online event coming very soon! Its all a bit top secret for now but will be chuffed to share it when its launched.
* last week we sent a box of ruffled goodies to the editor of "Irish Brides" magazine for an upcoming feature so hopefully there will be some published pics to share with you then too.
* We were also invited to send out some statement pieces to Belle Amoire, Haute Handbags and Altered Couture Magazines by the fabulously creative Stampington and Co publishing house in California.
* On top of that we have been trying to keep on top of our regular etsy sales too over the last few weeks so its been a whole frenzy of busyness here lately.
* Tomorrow we go on a Photoshoot with renowned Irish photographer Shane O'Neill to a haunted house and cliffside location so that should be fun,if a little unerving, all at once!
As Im typing, I can't help but think........ ( in my best Carrie Bradshaw exit ) ......
wouldn't life be wonderful with some staff!!! ;)
On the personal side of things, this summer is like the film, "4 weddings and a funeral!"
We have a communion, a christening, a wedding, a hen party weekend, our own birthdays, wedding anniversarys, partners birthdays, kids birthdays, friends 30th birthdays, friends birthday parties..................... the list goes on for quite a bit. lol
Ive never had a year like it, EVER! I think it might be time to invest in 2 Ger and Bonzie clones! ;)
Exciting News.
Gals,
We have recently had a wave of fortune in the studio in the form of some new magazine shoots coming our way. There are 4 new publications on line to work with us in the near future and we are just stoked about this and really looking forward to sharing the pieces with you guys when they hit the shelves. Its funny how these things happen in waves.
In fact Ger and I were just conversing across the cutting table the other day about working on some marketing projects soon as we have been studio based for a good while now and its nice to shake it up a little now and again. Well, if she did........ literally within 12 hours of mouthing the word "marketing" we were approached by 4publications to work on some shoots soon.
I like to think that the "laws of attraction" are at play there and very much enjoy the message in the book " The Secret" , if you havn't read it yet its worth a read and a really nice way to look at things afterwards. It makes you look at your life through a different perspective.
Whilst we are on the subject of looking at things, I hope you guys enjoy the newest couture piece to hit the shop, Im loving the colors in this one and it reminded me so much of the Phantom of the Opera show on Broadway I just had to name it "Masquerade Corset"
Birthday Roadtrip.
Gals,
Im so excited to be hitting the road tomorrow morning for a wee Birthday getaway with my partner. It feels like an age since I had a break and a getaway and we are heading for Killarney, one of our favourite destinations. ( well New York was booked out, what can I say. lol )
As Ger is the more organised of us both I was handed a bag of girlie goodies today that I would never even think of until its too late, loads of face scrubs, hair treats , the works and of course a bottle of wine with a bottle opener attached! I laughed at this last one as only Ger would know that I would take a bottle of wine with me on a trip and forget an opening operatus! :)
Its funny when you work along side a family member they actually come to know you better than you know yourself!
I also received a really special gift from one of my gal pals on etsy,simplysusan. Its such a lovely feeling to open a personal gift and handmade card from a friend I met online on the other side of the world. We have met some really amazing friends through the etsy community and Im always blown away by the kindness and caring nature of all the gals on there.
Back in a couple of days gals, hoping to see more of the above pictured on the journey. ( picture taken of a local castle ruin by my dad.
missing you already gals. :)
I shall be 28 when I get home, eek!
Client Corner ~ Wendy
Wendys Book!
Gals.......
One of our favourite things about selling online is finding out a little bit bout the destination of the piece we have just packaged up, who its going to, where its going to be worn, whats the occasion. This is where Wendy steps in! Wendy has a fascinating background and we clicked immediately..............
Wendy Gillissen (Delft, 1969) has always been fascinated by dreams and the supernatural. After graduating as a Clinical Psychologist, she specialized in dreamwork and past life therapy. The urge to write and her love for the world of castles, elves and ghosts stem from the time she was five years old and her parents first took her to the ancient hills of England, Scotland and Wales.
After an inspiring visit to the Greek island of Kefalonia in 2005, Wendy began writing Curse of the Tahiéra. Curse of the Tahiéra is a spiritual fantasy novel in which dreams, reincarnation and shamanism are woven into a thrilling adventure.It is a journey through haunted forests, through dreams and time; a story about love, magic and the power of forgiveness.
The Dutch edition was published in December 2008. The English edition of Curse of the Tahiéra is planned for May 2009.Wendy also makes jewellery inspired by ancient cultures, and in her spare time she plays the Celtic harp.
Some woman for one woman! (as we say round here) A creative soul that we were very drawn to. Wendy purchased a corset from us some time ago and as luck would have it we had a matching skirt in stock which would have been cruel to seperate from its buddy so we gifted it to Wendy. As Karma kicked in Wendy ended up rocking the ensemble on the cover of her book and we were chuffed to bits! This is one of those stories whereby a piece leaves our studio in Ireland, begins its own journey and has its own place in the world. Its always fun to know the destination of our creations, it makes the shipping more enjoyable!
The skirt above is Wendys latest purchase and is destined for a renaissance fair in the states! Its just a real shame these pieces dont need to be hand delivered ;)
Etsy approached us a wee while ago to pull together a feature of the Irish variety to coincide with Paddys Day during the month. We jumped at the chance to pull some of our favourite Ireland Based etsy peers together for a Storque article titled "Etsy Local".
These Storque features shine a spotlight on one particular locality and highlight the local talent, while personal photography gives a more intimate look into the folk behind each etsy shop theirin. We had a ball contacting all the Irish Local Participants and everyone got in front of the camera and brought us to their favourite local spots to share the Emerald Isle with the Etsy community. It was a lovely feature to be in and if you fancy a browse through the article take a look here.
Thanks to all the participants too, everyone did a brilliant job on it.
Client Corner ~ Lindsey
Gals, we were so excited when we received our clients Lindsey's photographs! I just love the rawness, the edgyness of these and had to check out the photographer that Lindsey worked with.
Talented photographer John Yates of http://www.beyondbrokenmedia.com/ is a stunning artist creating very distinctive work with a deconstructed edge, and urban sensibilities!
We had no idea Lindsey was such a great model herself and turns out she also has a rockstar boyfriend and wore our piece to a concert the Saturday she received it. I love to hear the personal stories of the new owners of our work, it really gives us a sense of the global reach of the internet and the journey that our pieces take after they leave the studio!
Thanks to Lindsey Farrar for sharing her stunning modelling pics with us all and to John for taking such cool work!
Happy St Patricks Day Everyone!
So in honor of the day that is green we wanted to wish you all a very Happy St Patricks Day . We hope you all enjoyed it yesterday wherever you were and whatever you got up to. We both enjoyed a day off without any sewing which was a much needed break. I know a lot of you were "wetting the shamrock" yesterday so I can assume the collective hangovers today are in full swing!
We awoke to find out that we had been featured on "Brendas Wedding Blog" as part of a collection of green pieces to introduce into your wedding theme. This feature brought us a wonderful new client Allyson who whipped up the green silk wrap that was featured for her own wedding. All round a lovely outcome and hopefully it will bring the luck of the Irish to her special day too given the day it was bought on.
If your a discerning bride you simply must visit Brendas Blog, its an absolutely stunning visual resource of all things bridal not to mention all things stylish. Check it out here.
Client Corner Kim
Gals,
We were so excited to receive our client Kim's pics from her wedding album that we had to feature her on our blog in "Client Corner" . Kim was an absolute darling client who opted for the whole works, a fully embellished bonzie corset with oppulent gold raw silk slinky fishtail and tulle underskirt, a tudor inspired bolero, a veiled headpiece, an adorned victorian inspired bag and a wrap. It was such an enjoyable project watching all the pieces come together to create such an elegant ensemble. Kim married her soul mate Aaron on a cruise with all their family and friends and they make an absolutely delicious couple.
We love the exotic colors of the scenery in these wedding pics and Kim and Aaron have such a glow! We wish them both the very sbest on the adventures ahead, its been such a pleasure to be a part of your special day. :)
CHECK OUT KILA!!!!
Gals, as Paddys Day approachs there is plenty of fun and frollicks on the streets here this weekend. On Saturday night I went to see an amazing firework display on the quay here in Waterford which was absolutely mindblowing. I had seen fireworks before but these were totally chereographed to really great music and 100,000 people lined the streets to join in. During the night an Irish band played live on stage and they absolutely rocked the crowd. Heres a vid of them rockin at another gig, they are an awesome group, I was very proud to be Irish on Saturday night! Check em out, they call themselves Kila!
Gals,
After a long and rainy winter here in Ireland we have sourced high and low for some bright vivid colors for our raw silk dupioni wraps as Spring approaches! Its a nice sunburst of color in store and hopefully there will be one that catches your eye. ( My favourite is the Apple Green)
